Normally when I talk about cops, it's about how much I can't stand their hypocrisy. But once in a while you run into a cop who isn't a complete jerk. Take this guy.

Harbor Fire Boat Fail

Jennifer and I went to Lowes as we do every year to buy her something from the Carole Towne collection. This year she bought an enchanting fire boat. It's so cute!

Something we didn't notice when we bought it is that it requires three AA batteries. It's very fine print on the box. It is also "AC Adaptable" which means you can get an adapter but it doesn't come with one. No matter. We have plenty of batteries to feed the hungry Wii remotes.

The wire leads to a switch to turn the lights on and off.

The only problem is I could not figure out for the life of me where to put the batteries. I thought maybe there was a secret opening up top. But no, none that I can find.

The bottom is the logical place, but it's covered up by this glued on cushion.

The battery cover couldn't possibly be under there. But after a few days, I finally gave up and pulled it off. It's the only other possible option.

Absolutely amazing. I can't believe it. This is one of the worst engineered products I've ever seen. Note, the cover is actually glued on. I had to remove the glue and pry it open.

What!? There's no place to put batteries! There's absolutely NO place to put batteries anywhere! I don't understand! This is the worst product I have ever purchased!!!

Remember that house we fell in love with?

Part of us was kind of sad to see the home we fell in love with finally sell after years as a model home. $443,775 was the final price. But hey, it turns out the home is for sale again. After living in the home for two months, the owners decided to sell. They initially tried to sell it for $445K in September. Today it's being offered for $399,000. Which isn't too bad, because I remember we priced it out and that house would have sold for around $300,000 at the time, which we thought was really really high, but now seems dirt cheap.

http://www.redfin.com/WA/Snohomish/12033-60th-Ave-SE-98296/home/2916432

Of course, chances are this home won't sell for $399,000 either. Home prices will adjust downward to 2005 levels at a minimum, which means the value of this house may be less than $300,000. On the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this home at $300,000 if the time were right and we were planning on living in that area. It's truly a beautiful home.

To Protect and Serve... Themselves IV: Texas Cop Doesn't Care About Dogs.

Oh boy.

A San Marcos, Texas, police officer has been accused of inappropriate behavior during a traffic stop which may have lead to a dog's death.

Officer Paul Stephens spotted driver Michael Gonzalez speeding down Interstate 35 and pulled him over for clocking 100 miles per hour....

Gonzalez and his girlfriend said they were speeding because they were rushing their choking teacup poodle Missy to an emergency veterinary clinic for treatment....

"You're driving down the highway at 100 per hour," he said sternly. "It's a dog, it's OK. You can get another one. Relax"

Gonzalez had to wait fifteen minutes on the side of the road, during which their dog died. Stephens was found not guilty of misconduct.

So, I'm curious. What would Mr. Stephens do if HIS dog was dying. Would he hop in his patrol car and drive 100MPH down the freeway to the vet?

P.S. I asked the San Marcos police chief this very question. I also noted that Mr. Stephen's actions, and his superiors inactions, are the reason police are no longer portrayed as Joe Friday, and are instead represented by Chief Wiggum and Lt. Jim Dangle.

Awesome Advertising Mashup: Chicken McNugents

Here's an idea to help McDonalds increase sales. Create a special Ted Nugent-themed Happy Meal, featuring Chicken McNugents. They would be just like regular nuggets, except shaped like guitars, musical notes, guns, and the NRA logo. Or alternatively, to save money, they could just be regular McNuggets with a different name. Probably nobody would notice the difference.

They could also adopt the tagline "McDonalds doesn't kill people, people kill people!" Or better yet, "McDonald's doesn't kill people... just eating it does."

This blog is the most genius blog in the world.

Broken!

I came into the bedroom today and noticed an eerie quiet. OH NOES! The box fan broke. The box fan runs 24/7. It's not that we need it on when we're not here, but rather that we just don't notice it running. We started using it because we live behind a supermarket, and it drowns out the noise at night, but now we can't sleep without it. I hope someone has box fans in stock even though it's nearly freezing out.

UPDATE: Apparently box fans are a SUMMER item. We plugged the A/C unit in and are running the fan on it, but it's pretty much not noisy at all.
