Help Out a Disabled Person

Two things at the mailbox today. One, someone left their keys in their mailbox, so I was a good samaritan and returned it to them. Unfortunately, I didn't get, say, a job, or money, or good luck, or anything. Bad karma is the only karma I suppose.

Also, a posting by someone claiming to be disabled. They say they still want to work, and if you'd only go shop online at their website.

"More and more people are shopping on line with this fast pace life. If you want to order call (206)-XXX-XXXX we will set you up with a ordering number soon."

Isn't this exciting? I have always wanted to order products online, but frankly I just never knew where to go. Now I do.

I wanted to buy something, you know, to help a brother out, but it turns out I have to have some sort of access code. I don't have one. The website is hosted by something called WWDB, which it turns out stands for Worldwide DreamBuilders. WWDB is affiliated with a company called Quixtar. Quixtar is probably better known by the name it used to market itself under... Amway. You know where this is going, right?

We don't usually talk much about Amway and other MLM ripoffs here, because I find Herbalife to be more pervasive and thus more destructive. (I promise, my Truth about Herbalife article is mostly written, but it's a bit too technical and I'm trying to make it more accessible.) But here we have an alleged disabled person who is trying to make some money from home, and it would seem that someone is taking advantage of them. Or, on the other hand, perhaps it is we who are being taken advantage of.

So the question of the day... if this person is being taken advantage of, do I have any sort of obligation to save them from themselves? I'm really torn... part of me wants to say "Stop! You're going to end up in real trouble!" But these people, once they've gotten in, they've usually been brainwashed to the point that they refuse to listen. Frustrating.

UPDATE: A post at Quixtar Blog may reveal whats going on. This may be related to something called the United ABLE Association. If so, how despicable. Now I'm intrigued.
