Disabled Quixtar Update
Well, I turned my caller ID off and called the number on the flyer. For some reason, I guess the horrible spelling and grammar, I kind of assumed the person on the other end would be mentally disabled. I know, that's stupid, it's just what I thought. I also, for some reason, thought that they were male.
Instead, I got the voice mail of a perfectly nice sounding woman... by the sounds of it, a younger one too. I didn't leave a message, since I didn't want them to have my number, but I was somewhat surprised. If you're a woman, why would you sell products from an unknown like Quixtar? Why not sell Avon or Tupperware or something? Lots of people like those products. Most people have them somewhere in their homes. They are sold at reasonable prices, and are backed by some perception of quality. If you come to your neighbor and say "I'm selling Avon" you may not sell a $100 weight loss system, but you may very well sell $10 worth of makeup. (Yes, I recognize this sounds sexist, but nobody ever heard of the Avon MAN!)
Of course, then you have to compete with both Avon and Tupperware directly. Those companies will sell to you directly from their website. But I think that makes people much more likely to buy your product.
Weird.
I also wonder what kind of disability this woman has. Were her legs chopped off in a brutal accident involving a train? Or does she have too much anxiety to go outside during the day? Seriously. One is really bad... the other you can work with.
